The American Dream: 17 Years of Engineering Software

Sun, 13 Apr 2008 16:59:45 PDT
Seventeen years ago, on April 10th 1991, a plane landed in John F. Kennedy airport. That plane had just crossed the Atlantic carrying, amongst others, passengers escaping the crumbling Soviet empire. One of whom was me. I walked off that plane with a first ever taste of Coca-Cola in my mouth, a lame teenage mustache, and not a clue about what to expect. When my sister emailed me on April 10th 2008 and reminded me of our immigration anniversary, I was suddenly overwhelmed with memories. A lot

Global Food Fights

It takes a decent respect for the obvious truth to admit that mankind has no control over the climate. What is occurring, however, based on actual and anecdotal information, is a trend toward global cooling. Between rising food costs driven by an environmental agenda...the word famine is going to be heard more often.

Bloggy Despotism: 2 of 2

Sun, 13 Apr 2008 15:59:50 PDT
In my years of newspaper and magazine work, I was a writer. Sometimes I was the editor-in-chief, but I was never on the dark side, publishing and advertising. That's the purity standard largely underpaid writers use to feel superior. Yet this blog thing I've been doing for four years muddles all of that. Ryan, Lynne and I share Left Ahead! That's largely a podcast site, with occasional commentary from each of us. I write on other of my blogs on non-political topics, as well as sometimes contri

CBC’s oft-used source for political experts —the Huffington Post —in new hate du jour

CBC’s oft-used source for political experts —the Huffington Post —in new hate du jour Here’s a bit of a post from the infamous Huffington Post web site, the web site which the state-owned CBC seems to use as a go-to place to secure folks to act as guest political experts for their Newsworld news channel. They ask questions of the Huffington Post experts in order to fully inform Canadians, CBC-style. Canadians, bereft of news otherwise, could, the CBC may well think, benefit from this kind of

How juicy political legends and myths like “Hidden Agenda” are written

Thu, 13 Mar 2008 14:58:11 PDT
How juicy political legends and myths like “Hidden Agenda” are written 1. As a general matter, simply watch the state-owned CBC Newsworld channel or any of a number of other liberal media outlets. Legends and myths appear as if out of nowhere. For example, just now: On the CBC Newsworld channel, in the middle of the newscast, a guest expert on all things political, Susan Delacourt, a political columnist from the liberal-left’s Toronto Star, suggested that Prime Minister Harper is an “unf

Dublin enjoyed another 18% increase in the average home sale price this week. There were 4 home sales this past week and all were existing home sales. This compares to 3 home sold in Pleasanton for the same period. It's encouraging to see this continued upward trend in the average home sale price in Dublin.
